The posted itinerary includes communities in Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, South Dakota, Minnesota, Illinois, Indiana, West Virginia, Maryland and Pennsylvania. Public stops are free and open to visitors, who can see the tree and truck, sign the tour banner and learn about the forests and Idaho. The November 19 stop at Joint Base Andrews requires military identification. The organizers say local partners are still finalizing some event details.

An Idaho grand fir heads east

The Architect of the Capitol reported that the selected tree is an 80-foot-tall, 26-foot-wide grand fir from the Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forests. It will be decorated with handmade ornaments from people in the region before standing on the Capitol’s West Lawn.
