Mobile, Alabama, will add a drone light show to its annual Christmas tree lighting celebration on Nov. 20, 2026. The program is planned to use 200 illuminated drones to form images and patterns in the sky.
WKRG News 5 reported on Oct. 20 that the Mobile City Council approved a $200,000 contract with Firefly Drone Shows for the performance. The City of Mobile’s event procurement document independently identifies the Christmas tree lighting as a Nov. 20 event and calls for a custom holiday-themed drone show. The city’s solicitation describes a planned Christmas-themed display, while WKRG reports the final 200-drone scope and council approval.
The addition brings aerial lighting into a traditional civic tree-lighting program. The city’s procurement document lists Mardi Gras Park as the event location and calls for synchronized music and holiday-themed animations. Weather, safety and required aviation approvals remain part of the show’s production planning.
