Sydney Sets Nov. 26 Date for Martin Place Christmas Tree Lighting and Citywide Festivities

The City of Sydney has outlined its 2026 Christmas program, with the Martin Place tree lighting scheduled for November 26 and free events planned across the inner city. The city says the tree will anchor an evening sound-and-light show that runs nightly through January 5, 2027, while neighbourhood street fairs and outdoor concerts will take place from late November into December.

According to the City of Sydney’s event listing, the Martin Place tree will be decorated with more than 110,000 LED lights, a 3.4-metre colour-changing star and 330 specially made baubles. The display will also include flower decorations across the tree’s branches, drawing on Australian native species.

The wider program includes Christmas fairs on Glebe Point Road, Macleay Street and Crown Street, plus free concerts at parks in Rosebery, Pyrmont and Alexandria. The City’s official listing says the Martin Place tree’s lights and decorative effects will run each night from 8 p.m. to midnight. The announcement marks an early look at the city’s planned festive installations and public events for the 2026 season.
