The City of Yakima and the Downtown Association of Yakima are looking for a resident-owned evergreen to serve as the downtown Community Christmas Tree this year. In a notice posted October 23, the city invited nominations for well-shaped trees between 35 and 50 feet tall that can be safely reached by a crane and transport trailer.
The city says nominations will remain open until a final selection is made by November 9. The chosen tree is scheduled to be lifted by crane on November 18, then installed at Millennium Plaza ahead of a December 6 lighting ceremony. The owner of the selected tree will not be charged for its removal.

Yakima says it is coordinating the removal and installation with the Downtown Association, Yakima Police Department and crane partners. The city also lists practical access requirements for nominations, including space for a crane and a 50-foot trailer. The selected evergreen is planned to become the centerpiece of the city’s downtown holiday festivities.
